The discourse of East Asian Literature suggests a point of view which transcends the nationalisms of Korean, Chinese, and Japanese Literature. I will regard the literatures of 3 nation states(actually 5 countries, South Korea, North Korea, China, Taiwan, and Japan) not as separable but as inseparable. Through it, we investigate the possibility of overcoming the dichotomy of the comparative literature and the intrinsic development theory .
During that time, the West has been the God in the Modem Korean Literature. The comparative literature founded on the cult of Western Origin is tipical. Since 1970's the intrinsic development theory has rosen to the horizon negating the comparative literature as imperialistic. Then the keyword turned from mimesis to creativity of Korean Literature. But the intrinsic development theory is the negation of the West really? The answer is No. In it the West is the God as ever. However it works as the hidden
God.
So I propose the East Asia as the third option. Through the process of recontextuallising the Modem Korean Literature in the context the East Asian Literature, I hope to escape from the dichotomy of imperialism and anti-imperialism, and to arrive at the possibility of World Literature in the sense of Goethe.
