On-line learning is quickly becoming a common feature of learning environments across all sectors of education, such as Christian education, because of its accessibility, flexibility, cost-effectiveness and learning quality. (Holt &Thompson 1998; Fraser & Deane 1997; Nunan 19%) This paper presents the background of on-line learning through Internet and reviews the on-line learning theories. It also presents the importance and expectation of on-line learning and suggestions for its application to Christian education. This paper discusses two theories, which are constructivism and motivation theory. They serve as basic theories of on-line learning and support the learner-centered view on education. Constructivism and socio-constructivist learning theories reviews to argue the need for particular elements in the design of effective on-line learning. Through Keller's ARCS (Attention, Relevance, Confidence, Satisfaction) model, this paper reviews macro- and macro-motivation theories in order to solve the problem of educational motivation in on-line learning process. The importance and expectation of on-line learning in its application to Christian education are discussed in three aspects, which are economic, social and emotional. In economic aspect, low-priced, efficient and same educational and missionary environment can be offered all over the country, winch will provide the various database of Christian theology information. In social aspect, on-line learning can offer interaction between an instructor and a learner through various communication channels (e-mail, messenger, video leg system, bulletin board etc.). On-line learning can also offer student-centered learning system for cooperative smail groups and for private counseling, enhance a problem solving ability, attain the possibility of open-education and open worship, and provide multimedia contents at any time and any places. In emotional aspect, on-line learning can solve alienation, induce and maintain learning motivation by grouping according to individual preference and regional assembly, offices of Christ(exhorter, deacon, etc), faith career. Suggestions for on-line learning and Christian education are presented. As for an instructor (minister, Sunday school tea~her, leader, designer, preacher, clergy), he/she should 1) participate in the learning process as a guider and/or a facilitator; 2) prepare and administrate detailed learning task modules; 3) consider the on-line etiquette; 4) and utilize theology information access and information storage. As for a learner (laity, Christian, elementary, middle, high school, college students, Sunday school student) he/she should 1) take different group(faith level etc.) for the emotional diversification; 2) and print out course's points (Q.T, bible study, hymn, picture etc) after preparing and finishing the on-line learning course.
