The theory of adaptiveness is the methodology of folk songs which demands researchers to take how a singer understands and evaluates the songs into consideration. This theory refuses to study on only the recordings of the songs. The theory also studies on the thoughts and feelings of the singer like texts.
For the theory of adaptiveness, spot recording is more important than anything else. To accomplish, the researchers need to interview and observe the subjects several times. In addition, the researches should be done in wide range of areas at an interval of time.
The adaptive approach enables us to deeply analyze the folk songs. First, it gives us a chance to understand the locality of the songs in the literary view. It can also prevent researchers from overlooking the specialities which stems from the theory establishment process through the generalization. Further, it minimizes the researchers’ arbitrary interpretations over the subjects.
As I mentioned before, for adaptive approach, the thoughts and feelings of the singers should be considered very important. However, the researches so far were not established in this way. So, it is necessary to record the songs newly.
This way of study can be applied to oral literature, folklore generally as well as the folk songs.
