Local folk songs have been transmitted from generation to generation in different ways. With the conditions of playing and performing folk songs changed, it is thought that transmission of folk songs through school education is more important than any other time.
This thesis is aimed to find educational materials to be utilized in school with the local folk songs of Paltan-Myeon, Hwaseong City. Selecting and analyzing labor songs from the Gyeonggi section of ??Hanguk Minyo Taejon?? and the sound source section of the first volume of ??Hayngtominyo of Gyeonggido??, I classified the writing into two subjects, the way of database of singing education and the way of creative singing.
I analyzed the musical composition and features of the subject songs according to the characteristics of tonal structure such as constituent notes, ending note, progress of melody and construction of a words, beats, and singing methods. The result showed that two songs out of five have the musical characteristics of Eastern folk songs in scale and the other three use that of Gyeonggi folk songs. With respect to beats, three songs have four-beats with three-small beats and two songs, on the other hand, use irregular beats with three-small beats. In the number of singing methods, sunhuchang style, unison, and sunhuchang of geohwanchang style are three, one, and one respectively.
I suggested the practical plan for the educational use of folk songs based on the analysis of the local folk songs of Paltan-Myeon, Hwaseong City, sorting the musical pieces as material to be utilized for singing education. In the first place, pieces with regular beats are simplified focused on basic melody and unified to repetitive and representative melody. Pieces with simple melody are focused on unification, while pieces with complex melody are focused on simplification. Secondly, pieces with irregular beats are unified with beats and then applied with regular beats according to a certain type of rhythm, followed by the simplification and unification of the melody.
I offered the way of creative singing, with the songs selected through working for the material of song education, in order to make them utilized for the means to expression and sung pleasantly as well. Creative singing is offered to reflect the features of musical pieces and classified as follows; singing with altered words, singing with created words, singing with altered singing method and forms, and singing with altered rhythm, etc.
With regard to singing with altered words and singing with created words, we could make and alter the words after understanding the features of wordsconstruction and rhythm of words which means the number of regularly written letters in the words in a rhythm. When making and altering words, we could make them connected with the meaning of the words and altered to be suitable for a certain subject which will be given. rhythm of words of the local folk songs of Paltan-Myeon, Hwaseong City was mostly found to be 5ㆍ5 rhythm, 4ㆍ4 rhythm, and 5ㆍ4 rhythm.
Singing with altered singing method uses, among various singing methods, the methods exchangeable to each other, which alters sunhuchang style to singing in unison, refrain of sunhuchang style to pungmull jang-dan.
Singing with altered singing forms could be used in either way of making changed the length of chorus leading or overlap singing.
In singing with altered jang-dan, the jang-dan could be changed according to the exchangeable structure and the feature that as musical pieces get faster, the melody gets simpler and as the pieces get slower, the melody gets more splendid. When it is changed to slow jang-dan, ornament notes would be added to come to get more splendid. When changed to fast jang-dan, it would be simplified with ornament notes reduced, focused on main melody. I changed the jang-dan using such features above and the features of musical pieces, even in a piece, making the jang-dan begin with slow jungmori to jungjungmori and jajinmori.
In conclusion, I offered the way we could utilize the local folk songs of Paltan-Myeon, Hwaseong City in school education and hope that the way of database of singing education and creative singing could be helpful in school education of other areas.
