The purpose of this study is to investigate the quality as festival in Seoul Maeulgut (마을굿). The following are the detailed problems and the finding of the study. Currently to the Seoul the Maeulgut becomes hand down above 40 villages. Like this flourishing hand down reason with afterwords is same ; 1)the focus symbol exists 2)it accepts a change today 3)the mudang and the inhabitants of a village accomplish the harmony. The people have made a hero who is existent human being and have admired the hero as God. The hero becomes focus symbol. The mudang continuously develops the maeulgut with help of the inhabitants of a village.
The exist of the maeulgut of the seoul is meaning that the tradition of the seoul is living still. Also the maeulgut to tie the inhabitants of a village at one and maeulgut become to festival. The maeulgut has a both faces characteristic, defends the archetype and follows the change. This two mean is explained like afterwords.
1) defends the archetype - the people it worships as a symbol, the exists Dangjumudang(the shaman which takes charge of the maeulgut).
2) follows the change - the new festival it makes, positive participation of inhabitants of a village.
