This paper aims at examining how the mirror image of dismantlement contributes to the postmodern space of The Real Thing which has an elaborate metadramatic structure with sudden and total dismantlement. The overwhelming response to Stoppard has been the originality of his dramatic conceptions, his wit, and the philosophical ideas in his dialogue. Certainly these aspects together give him distinction among his peers. Main discussion is divided into three parts. First this paper examines the dislocated world of The Real Thing in the view of ‘Klein’s bottle’, secondly reviewing how Stoppard symbolizes the human condition of uncertainty in our time by manipulating his original sound images through the montage technique, and lastly analyzing the play text with his metalanguage games, one of his theatrical devices. This paper evaluates the theatricality of his plays in the context of postmodernism.
