The purpose of this study was to compare the silk with the polyester for the construction and the performance for 64 Hanbok fashion fabrics which have been sold in the most recent year. All the fabrics have woven pattern design and were classified into two groups of 36 plain weave and 28 satin weave according to ground weave. Each group has half silk and half polyester, and was measured thickness, weight, wrinkle resistance, and stiffness properties. Woven pattern design was also analyzed.
The pattern of silk group was made up more weave types than polyester group, so silk fabric has finer pattern line than polyester fabric. In case of ground plain weave the warp of silk fabric was no twist yarns, and then that of polyester fabric was twist yarns. In case of ground satin fabric the warp of silk fabric had S twist, and then that of polyester fabric had Z twist mostly. But the most of filling was no twist yarns.
Polyester and the ground satin weave had better wrinkle resistance than silk and the ground plain weave. Polyester, filling direction, and the ground satin weave were softer than silk, warp direction, and the ground plain weave. The silk fabric is better for the high class looking and the design silhouette, and then the polyester fabric is better for the high practicality and the high resistance.
