The purpose of this study was to provide standard and disposal of terminology on special field of semi-abridged dictionary compilation. Disposal and selection of terminology on Korean middle dictionary is meaningful, for it is ultimately used as the selecting standard of whole semi-abridged dictionary lemma. In this study, specially, select lemma of historical terminology was mainly concerned.
To fulfill this purpose, general selecting standard of semi-abridged dictionary lemma was re-checked, and during those process, semi-abridged dictionary lemma is to be limited in Modern language. Therefore terminology of semi-abridged dictionary should be selected in Modern language, and for that, historical terminology was chosen to provide appropriate standard. Terminology select was present mainly concerning historical terminology.
Terminology included in semi-abridged dictionary should be present as register for lexical information more than as terminology for classification on dictionary, and it was pointed that general words also should be distinguished into historical words and modern words. In addition, the range of Modern language in this study was determined. To conclude, in this study, lemma of historical terminology and quasi-historical terminology included in abridged dictionary would be present as Modern Korean Dictionary through the plan including it in semi-abridged dictionary in the concept of Modernity.
