The purpose of this study was to determine the effects of contextual interference on the acquisition of golf putting skill. For this purpose, 30 middle school students were equally allotted to three groups which differ in the degree of contextual interference (blocked, serial, random group).
The experimental design used for this study was a 3 × 4 factorial design with repeated-measures on the second factor. On the performance stage, three different lengths of holes were used. First, start with 5 trials on each hole than restart with 30 trials.
For the blocked group, using three different lengths of holes A, B and C, attempt 10 trials on hole A than move to hole B and lastly hole C. For the serial group, in order of hole A-B-C were used with 30 trials on each hole. Without in order of holes, 30 trials were used on each hole on random performance group.
The subjects were allowed to exercise putting 60 trials, and 24 hours later, their retention test was checked. At all stages, the measurement errors were calculated as absolute errors.
Each group members were allowed to play putting 5 trials and thereby, a total of 4 block were regarded as independent variables for the two-way ANOVA. On the other hands, after 5 trials per group, students' retention stage were subject to one-way ANOVA to be tested posterior with Scheffe' test. As a result, it was found that there was no significant difference during exercise among these group(blocked, serial, random), but that there was some significant differences at retention stage; Random group was found most effective for acquisition of golf putting skill, followed by blocked, serial, random group.
