In the history of African language studies it has been often discussed what kind of method should be used not only to explore the genetic relationship between given languages, but also to explain resemblances occurring among languages. According to the division of language structure there are three major methods of comparison, namely the method of 'regular sound correspondences', method of resemblance in the lexical level and that of grammatical comparison. Concerning the grammatical comparison, however it came to be known that it sometimes is not relevant for clarifying the genetic relationship, rather it is just the result of historical and social contacts. In this article four different kinds of language types following Heine(1976) are given according to the order of meaningful element in grammar. West African Ewe, traditionally known as a typical 'isolating' word structure type, is studies mainly with its concrete examples from Ansre(1966). It is well known that there is a implicational relationship between grammatical structures in a single language. So if a language has SVO order in its basic transitive sentence like Swahili, it will have Noun-Modifier order in its noun phrase, Aux-Ⅴ order, and preposition, rather than postposition. Even though there is a dominance structure, which occur statistically more often, there are also deviant varieties from this ideal type. Greenberg's three way distinction(1963) seems to be not enough for understanding the dynamic variety of African languages. Heine's B-type language like Ewe and Senufo shows some difficulties in assigning the traditional rigid categories like verb, preposition etc especially in so called 'serial verb construction'. So it would seem to have such alternative view on the genesis and the status of grammatical categories as recent Grammaticalization theorist have suggested. Finally some aspects on areal linguistic approaches are given, which will do function as a supplementary method in African comparative linguistics. As a sample data for understanding African linguistic types, Somali(Cushitic), Turkana(Nilotic), Ewe(Kwa), Senufo(Gur), Swahili(Bantu), Ju/'hoan(Khoisan) are analysed.
