The present study was conducted to examine whether Korean learners" degree of preference for using computers can be a factor affecting L2 hypertext reading performance. In addition, the study sought to investigate learners" perceptions towards L2 hypertext reading. The participants were 62 Korean university students enrolled in a general English course. They performed two types of web reading tasks every week for a semester: the first task was internet Scavenger Hunt, and the second task was hypertext reading on given web sites. The mean scores of two types of L2 hypertext reading task were compared to investigate the difference between the two groups by the degree of computer preference. The data from a survey and interviews were also analyzed to find the students" perceptions towards L2 hypertext reading. The results showed that there were no significant differences in hypertext reading performance between the two groups. Both groups, however, showed improvement in general reading skills on the web. Most of the participants responded positively after the experiment, considering L2 hypertext reading through the open-ended questions and interviews. Based on the findings, implications for this experimental study and future research were suggested.
