Since its inception in 2004, the Policy of Art & Culture Education has been confronted with a lot of criticism, even if it has provided certain results. Other than a criticism based on limitations of a system which has been absorbed in the designing process of the administrationoriented policy and the policy for the human force, there is one important matter related to the task and direction of art & culture education.
Such a thing is related to the understanding of Herbert Read and recognizing his limitations. Read criticized the separated academic system and the knowledge-oriented education of our modern society, focusing on the ‘Education through Art’ for personality education. His educational theory for art, which focuses on the aesthetic sensitivity by considering general, creative and characteristic aspects, is known as ‘Aesthetic Education’. It focuses on the balanced and harmonized human beings through the combination and harmony between the person and one’s external environment.
However, the change of society exposes the limit of his educational theory for art. Read’s limit is very similar to the problems confronted by art & culture education these days. Firstly, there is a problem related to the combination between the dynamic capacity of art & culture education and educational type and system. Secondly, there is a problem related to the combination of art & culture education from the new artistic point of view. Lastly, there is a problem related to public creativity based on various cultural foundations.
