This paper is a research about the problems and solutions of literary works that are included in the Korean textbooks of elementary level. There were many critiques that some unqualified literatures has been works as canon, however, the reasons why the qualified canons were not selected as the textbook materials were not researched so far.
As a result of discussion, we have noticed that the reason for this phenomenon can be traced to the complexities of problems in government administration, Korean literature educational circle, and Child literary circle. Firstly, Korean textbooks were used for the method of propagating the ideology of government; thus, canons couldn’t be included. Secondly, the editors of textbooks did not consider the materials for the textbooks as the literary work. Thirdly, literary education was subordinate to the Korean language skill centered education. Lastly, there were lacks of text which can be considered as a canon.
Since the reasons for the problem have been reveled, the solution is shown immediately. The most urgent issue is to recognize the essence and importance of literary education and to treat the literary text in textbook as literary works. Secondly, we need to make the literary education independent from the language skill education. Thirdly, when publishing textbooks, we need to escape from the Objetive-Oriented Textbook Structure. Lastly, the children literary circle and the literature educational circle should communicate each other and make a list of canon. As a long term mission, child literary researchers and critics should select qualified literary works and continuously recommend the literatures to readers and literary educators. Also, authors should try to write the fine works that can achieve recognition.
