This study aims at proposing an embodimental way of teaching the Bible. When the biblical stories connect with human daily life stories, Christians live their lives holistically. The community of faith also creates good influences on society and the broader community.
Human life is composed of stories. Stories can reproduce and recreate other stories through storytelling and life experiences. Bible stories also form our faith. Bible stories are embodied when they link to life stories. Rituals can be defined as symbolic acts that must be performed in a certain way and in a certain order, and may or may not be accompanied by verbal formulas. Rituals can help to form our identity. Rituals also create transformation in our life. Rituals can connect life stories with Bible stories.
Based on these roles of stories and rituals, this study suggests some concrete examples of teaching the Bible through rituals. Bible stories of the Christian community as a reborn-community in faith and as a serving community can connect with life stories through rituals. Everyday face-washing and bathing can also be a place where we recognize our identity as new beings in faith. The daily dining table can be the remembrance of communion and Jesus" love and life for us.
Though this cannot cover the category of teaching the Bible fully, it will be a good example of effective teaching and learning approaches to the Bible. Christian religious educators need to develop and perform several rituals that are useful and effective to connect the Bible stories with life stories.
