The purpose of this paper is to analyze the phonological and lexical phenomena among Hyangyak terminology in Boncho Jeonghwa, the medicine book that is categorized as Botany, focusing on Korean description. The conclusion is summarizing the discussion.
First, although examples are rare, according to analysis of phonological phenomena, this book is thought to reflect Korean before the early years of the 18th century. Because palatalization, labialization, semi vowel deletion under the ‘ㅅ’ are not appearing, it may fairly be presumed that the book is written between the middle 17th century and the early 18th century.
Second, In this book, there are many Hyangyak terminology that the form is same as in Donguibogam, Jejungsinpyeon, Uijongsonik. Among the three literatures, many cases are found which corresponds to examples that are only in Donguibogam . Therefore, it is assumed that this book has relationship with Donguibogam .
Third, pure Korean Hyangyak terminology that were not found in other books are bombori(봄보리), musyuri(무슈리), 너홰(neohwae), borinamoyeoreum(보리나모여름), gangnamkong(강남콩), nakji(낙지). Chinese or another names are gwijeon(鬼箭), cheonmyeongjeong(天名精), haeada(孩兒茶), heuksamsamreung(黑三稜), chungbaekrap(?白蠟) myeonggu(鳴鳩), daesochae(大鳴菜), mokryong(大龍), buja(鳧茨), jangeo(章魚), odani(烏?泥). Identification of these words are big accomplishment. Besides, the words that appears rarely in other books such as goj?sbaki(고즛바기), jugeunmil(주근밀), gach?ymureus(가취무릇), chyoks?y(쵹쇠), soes?y(쇠쇠), goni(곤이), nakseok(絡石), yeonjak(練鵲) are also noticeable.
Fourth, there are many other names of Hyangyak terminology were embraced in Pyojungukeodaesajeon. Therefore, it is necessary to establish the acceptance process of other names in Pyojungukeodaesajeon and the semantic correlation between other names.
Description of history of words are based on every single terminology. Therefore, in order to fully describe history of a single word and history of lexicon system of Hyangyak terminology, it is necessary to value and find handful of words. To do that, the groundwork of close investigation of every Medicine book and related literature should be preceded. This will allow database establishment and systematic description of Hyangyak terminology.
