Jung-Weol Na Heysuk(晶月 羅蕙錫) is representative in various fields, such as art and literary history in modern Korea and Women’s history and national movement history. Before getting divorced, she spent his golden years. For example, she held the private exhibition for the first time as a Korean lady painter, and was accepted the Chosun Art Exhibition, and wrote about everyday affairs and women’s movement through press and magazine, and travel to Europe and America during 2 years.
After the mid of 1934, she gone through time of trial. The Women School for Art did not receive response, which train women painters. The ‘divorcee’ was an obstacle. The 『Confession Letter for Divorce』 caused the social shock and created a stir. In this letter, she expressed her position as a ordinary mother missing human affection, accepting her divorce because of her mistake.
The ‘requested lawsuit of alimony for invasion of Cheogwon(妻權)’ evoked many criticism. The follow-up reports and result was unknown to the world. The curiosity about this event got connected to interpretation and inference of many researchers. The ‘saving Choi Rin(崔麟)’ of Japan through press control gained a success. It could be inferred that Na Heysuk were forced into becoming victim.
The Scandal of Park Heedo(朴熙道) reported in 『Chosun Jungangilbo』 in March 1934 embarrassed the colonial authorities. This situation was a staggering blow for them as a good lesson. As the press control, the case of ‘requested lawsuit of alimony’ remains unsolved for these days. Eventually, the press control was the one of colonial unjust laws.
