This paper offers new information to supplement the relevant historical content pertaining to the epitaphs of Kim GeukGeom(金克儉) and Jeong SeupMyeong(鄭襲明). In particular, errors in interpreting the epitaph of Kim GeukGeom are indicated and estimations for the damaged lettering are given. The epitaph of Kim GeukGeom states the YeongGwang-Kim(靈光金氏) clan is the intermarriage of Suju-Yi(樹州李氏) clan. which is typical of noble families. Also through the contents of the epitaph, the author’s understanding of the significant influence of the YeongGwang-Kim clan against Yi JaGyeom(李資謙) can be known.
However, the epitaph of Jeong SeupMyeong states that although he was born into the HyangRi(鄕吏) class, through he rose to the public officer by way of the GwaGeo(科擧). Furthermore according to the epitaph it states very clearly the tragic fact of his ‘suicide’ included in his historical background. The process of breaking away from the politics centered by Kim BuSik(金富軾) had begun during the reign of King EuiJong(毅宗). And so King EuiJong came to contemplate the good advice he had received and the risks of his over indulgence in entertainment. Jeong SeupMyeong is regarded as in history as a person who opposed all that was wrong in the politics of King EuiJong
