The purpose of this study is to suggest the use of movies as a type of teaching materials in teaching pronunciation since the use of movies to study English has become popular with English language learners in Korea over the past thirty years. As the demand for English is rapidly increasing in Korea, good oral skills are essential and good pronunciation is most desirable for all levels of learners. Incorrect pronunciation can cause misunderstanding and frustration to native-speaking listeners. Improving pronunciation can be a very difficult and boring task for the learners without interesting materials and methods. It seems, however, that most researchers and teachers do not recognize that movies can motivate the learners. Movies are not only authentic language teaching material, but they also provide a basis for meaningful language use in the classroom. The first step is a careful selection of segments of movies in consideration with the content and the difficulty level of language since not all movies are suitable for all language classes. The second step requires the learners need to understand the basic characteristics of certain English sound systems and phenomena that the learners may find very difficult. Finally, the appropriate teaching methods need to be sought.
