This study intends to survey units of world history curriculum from syllabus period to 2015 reformed curriculum period and the issues about them, and to suggest current problems of world history teaching. To achieve the purpose of this study, I surveyed national curriculum from syllabus period to 2015 reformed curriculum period and previous articles about them.
From the 1945 Liberation to the present the quality and discussion courses of world history teaching were inferior to those of Korean history teaching. I hope that the discussions of world history teaching will be activated with this thesis. The suggestions of this study are as follows.
Firstly, it is necessary to suggest exquisitely the purposes of world history teaching for history subject’s separation from social studies and compulsory world history subject. Secondly, it is necessary to embody the sequences of world history subjects in primary, middle and high schools. Thirdly, it is necessary to increase the number of world history lessons and pages of world history textbooks. Fourthly, it is necessary to expand the lessons about world history in history teacher education. Lastly, it is necessary to make the source material books and to offer them to middle and high schools.
