This paper studies reflective writing in Choi, Hea-Doo’s Blame Himself. For this purpose, this paper focuses on qualification and construction of writing about the traumatic experience of apostasy.
Choi, Hea-Doo’s Blame Himself is a reflective confession about the life of Choi, Hea-Doo as an apostate. Reflective writing in Choi, Hea-Doo’s Blame Himself suggests on ethical anxiety and negative emotion resulting from the apostasy experience. After this writing, Choi, Hea-Doo’s Blame Himself reveals an ‘empathic aspect’ using identification on knowledge about behavior models, and an ‘evaluative aspect’ applying Catholic doctrine to his personal experience. Such aspects of reflective experiences writings are interacted for newly signify traumatic experience on apostasy.
Through this, Choi, Hea-Doo’s Blame Himself shows narrative-identity using emotion and self-awareness formed between ‘regret as an apostate’ and a ‘wish to be like-martyr’. And this process makes Choi, Hea-Doo’s border ethos between apostate of reality and martyr of wish.
