This thesis discussed MongZi’s the correspondence of happiness with virtue in MouZongSan’s YuanSanLun. The topic of ‘Happiness’ in eastern philosophy was not at the center of the philosophical debate, because of placing emphasis on pursuing the ideal human being, represented by a saint(聖人). So, in the first stage of Confucian self-cultivation, the relationship between virtue and happiness is viewed to be analytic. Confucian think that as long as there is virtue, there is happiness. This is to give virtue primacy without worrying about the existence of happiness. Confucianism, however, does not see this as the ultimate realm. In Chinese philosophy, Mencius mentioned the relationship between virtue and happiness[Heavenly dignity(天爵) and humanly nobility(人爵)] loosely, without offering a detailed analysis.
Theory of Perfect Good is one of the most complex parts of Mou Zonsan’s philosophy monograph, and so far it is the only work in the Chinese philosophy discussing on relation of virtue and happiness. Mou ZongSan criticized that Kant did not acknowledge human intellectual intuition. In the Kantian philosophical system, the assurance of the ultimate perfect correspondence of virtue and happiness can only come from God. It is from this that Kant affirms the existence of God. “perfect good” in Kantian philosophy is not something that can find real present. Kant can only use the affirmation of God to assure the possibility of perfect good. Because He denies human intellectual intuition.
During the Theory of Perfect Good, Mou ZongSan further clarify the relationship between virtue and happiness; with ‘infinite mind’ dissolves Kant’s Three Presumption; establish China’s unique Perfect Teaching, and thus unique to the Creative of Confucian Moral mind determine the Perfect Teaching of Confucian to the ultimate Perfect Teaching. Mou ZongSan believe that Perfect Teaching’s solving can make a clear presentation of Perfect Good. Perfect Good(Kant’s Highes Good) will be a final solution in Confucian’s Perfect Teaching.
