This article aims at understanding the content of history teaching in elementary school of China by analyzing Ideology and Moral Character.
First, the history combined with geography is inserted into physical geography and human geography. Textbook intends to describe the territory of China as an organism having a personality to be great and beautiful.
Second, premodern history consists of history of everyday life and cultural history, such as food, clothing, shelter, ceramics etc., overemphasizing the excellence of Chinese culture. So it is possible that students would have autistic recognition eventually.
Third, modern history set up its circumstances under the condition of humiliation, the defeat of Opium war. And it narrates heroic struggle against imperialism. Communist party plays as a savior of China in trouble. It has the plot of romance like the revival of Jesus.
History teaching in China has characteristic of nationalistic history emphasizing the national identity. Instead of emphasizing national identity, democracy, human rights and peace should be dealt with in history teaching for students to grow as a democratic citizen.
