This study was intended to investigate the possibility of changing cabin crew safety consciousness and safety behavior through Aviation Safety Training Programs (ASTP). To achieve the purpose of the study, it began with the analysis of the relationship between ASTP and safety behavior. The focus of the study was placed on the mediating role of safety consciousness of cabin crews. A questionnaire survey was implemented for 438 domestic airline cabin crew personnel from March 24 to April 25, 2016. The data were used for statistical analyses including hierarchical regression analysis for the mediating effects. According to the results of analyses, it was found that emergency safety/security training and basic safety training among the four sub-factors of safety training programs had significant positive (+) influences on safety behavior. Another important finding was that safety consciousness had mediating effects in the relationship between ASTP and safety behavior. In this research, the main theoretical contribution was to separate the safety consciousness from safety behavior, which had been confusingly used in the same context previously, and treat safety consciousness as a mediating variable. Other implications with regard to airline human resource management were found and showed the significance of further study focused on cabin crew safety consciousness.
