This study examined whether the family friendliness of a community contributed to the relief of family to work conflict and work to family conflict of employed mothers whose eldest child was aged under 18. A total of 783 working mothers residing in 53 different communities were extracted from the 5th wave of Korean Longitudinal Survey of Women and Families in 2014, and indicators of community family friendliness were extracted from the 2013 database of Korean Statistical Information Service. Analysis results showed significant variation in family to work and work to family conflict of employed mothers from different communities, and that living in a community with a family friendly infrastructure and higher proportion of children under age 12 in the population reduced family to work conflict. Prevalence of family friendly infrastructure contributed to mitigating the exacerbating effect of low household income on family to work conflict of employed mothers. Findings provided empirical evidence for the Korean government"s policy initiative to form a family friendly community in an effort to support a work family balance for its people.
