The aim of this essay is to light up the real relationship between the Spanish cavalry novel in the 16<sup>th</sup> century and the comic strip about superheroes in the 20<sup>th</sup> century in USA. Comparing the archetypes, the historic context and the narratological elements, it will be demonstrated the close kinship of both as fruit of similar historic circumstances. We will start comparing Amadís de Gaula and Superman in order to see the origin of both genres, and we will end with the analysis of the decline of the Spanish cavalry, mainly in the Quixote, as well as the possible quixotic attempt which would be in the American comic.
