Plato is a philosopher who has had a great influence in all ages and countries. Particularly the study of Plat`os artistic thought is looked upon as very important in that it establishes the concept of soul and body. The purpose of this thesis is to reconsider Plato`s domain of art and aesthetic view on the light of his philosophical world. This thesis aims at developing Plato`s thought in art on the basis of his view of art and physis, the theory of imitation, and the theory of Idea. Also We expect to discover the influence of Plato`s thought upon art and dance. The second chapter of this thesis shows that Plato`s domain of art consists of `being-goodness`, `art and morals`, and `the view of body`. In 「Symposium」, Plato reveals that original beauty is not worth because we love it, but the worth of orignal beauty makes us love each other. This beauty is `a priori` to us, always exists, lacks for becoming and extinction, and neither increases nor decreases. On the contrary, it stays only one-shaped goodness. Accordingly, ethical goodness is riot such a market worth that depends on demand and supply, but it is `absolute`. In this thesis, following Plato, man is a being which has soul and physis, which acknowledges soul and at the same time means `Body`. The third chapter of this thesis deals largely with Plato`s aesthetic view on the basis of the theory of imitation and the theory of Idea. The theory of imitation is analyzed into simple imitation, intrinsical imitation, and ideological imitation. In the fourth chapter, Plato acknowledges only noble dance, not ugly one. In 「Laws,」, he reveals that art should include imitative elements, and it does not express things as they are. but should make spectators himself experience things. In conclusion, Plato regards physis(body) as a phenomenon, and soul as nature like Idea. Therefore, the relation between mind and body can be closely examined by understanding the relation between his Idea and a phenomenon (thing). Also Plato"s thought of immortality is represented as aesthetic foundation and philosophical thought. In 「Republic」 he insists that dance should imitate the beauty of natural in terms of education, which refines man`s emotion.
