This study investigated the effect of a character education program using picture-books on young children’s self-regulation and prosocial behaviors. The subjects in this study were 30 3-year-old children (15, experimental group and 15, control group) attending a day care center in Gyeonggi-do. A character education program using picture books was used for the experimental group for 11 weeks. The results revealed that the program in this study had significant effects on young children’s self regulation (i.e., self assessment, self determination, behavioral inhibition) and prosocial behaviors (i.e., leadership, helping, communication, directed care, access attempts, dividing, empathy). According to this study, the character education program using picture books has a positive effect on children’s self regulation and prosocial behaviors.
