오늘날 대중교통을 활성화 하기위해서 많은 정책들과 서비스 등이 개발되고 있으며 대중교통 정보도 많이 제공되고 있다. 하지만 지금까지의 대중교통 정보제공은 주로 운영자 중심의 일 방향 대중교통 정보를 제공해 왔고, 기존의 대중교통정보 제공은 이용자 개인별로 각기 다른 요구를 반영하지 못하는 획일적으로 제공되고 있으며, 이용자들의 다양한 요구를 반영하지 못하고 있다. 대중교통 서비스 질 제고를 통한 대중교통 활성화와 이용자 만족도 향상을 위해 첨단 대중교통정보제공 서비스 정책의 일환으로 이용자 맞춤형 대중교통서비스 기술개발 R&D과제가 진행 중에 있다.
