This paper aims to analyze the structure and meaning of ‘－chung’ combined coinage and discuss whether it can be regarded as a disgusting expression. ‘－Chung’ is a psuedo－suffix that has popular through internet and SNS these years and has been used to produce words that express the speaker’s hatred and anger mainly in ‘Ilbe’ (best daily posts) community. After ‘Ilbechung’ was known, words like ‘Teulttakchung, Momchung, Susichung, Geupsikchung’ are being produced continuously and attract the social attention as a disgusting expression.
The combined words of ‘－Chung’ are classified into formally combined structures: 1) noun/noun phrase combination 2) root combination 3) abbreviated form combination, and the semantically combined structures: 1) negative object combination 2) negative action combination 3) neutral object combination 4) neutral action combination. The ‘－chung’ combined words classify the objects, so it is likely to be a disgusting expression for the social group. It can make individual subjective emotions appear as an objective social opinion. It is difficult to define the combined words of ‘－chung’ as an expression of disgust but it is likely to be a disgusting expression.
