Takeo Arishima (1878-1923) was a humanitarianist, and it is known that he believed in anarchism ideologically. Therefore, he consistently criticized the imperialistic policies of the Japanese government since the Meiji Restoration. Unlike intellectuals at that time, they had different perceptions of Chosun(Korea). In this paper, we will examine the view of the nation of Arishima and its philosophy, and comprehend how Chosun(Korea) was perceived at that time. Then, we looked at the relationship between the Chosuns(Koreans) and Arishima, which had not been concretely examined.
Among the Chosuns(Koreans) who exchanged with Arishima, three were Lee Pil-ho, Chae Soon-byeong and Lee Young-sil, whose names were listed in the diary. They were all figures who worlced for Chosun`s independence. Arishima consistently opposed Chosun`s colonial policy, but he did not declare that idea. However, recognizing that it was a dangerous act, and supporting them was based on his beliefs, and I think it was the maximum action Arishima could take.
