Noahic covenant has not been paid much attention due to its lack of relationship with God’s redemptive history. It contains, however, the basic elements of the meta-narrative of biblical redemptive history, such as the creation, fall, redemption, eschaton. The aim of the paper is to investigate the redemptive historical function of Noahic covenant from the perspective of meta-scope(redemption of all creation) and micro-scope(redemption of the elect). The immediate literary context (Gen 1-3) of Noah narrative (Gen 6-9) demonstrates that there are linguistic and thematic correspondences between the antediluvian and the postdiluvian, such as creation and recreation, Adam and New Adam, the fall of Adam and Noah. There are several characteristics of Noahic covenant. The background of it is a radical corruption of the era (intermarriage) and its corresponding God’s judgement. The biblical author employed the term heqim berit instead of qarat berit in order to confirm and maintain the existing covenant relationship between God and his people in creation. The promises of Noahic covenant are the preservation of Noah’s family, living creatures, creation order, and human beings created in the image of God. The beneficiaries of Noahic covenant are Noah and his family members, and all living creatures. Noahic covenant testifies that the meta-scope of God’s redemptive history includes not only human beings but also all creation, and provides the foundation of redemptive history. The micro-perspective of Noahic covenant is realized through Noah’s family, and it plays a significant function in understanding the redemptive history of the covenant. The blessing of the seed of the woman and the curse of the seed of the serpent in Gen 3:15 are further developed in the blessing of Shem and the curse of Canaan in Gen 9:25-27. The tents of Shem are the channel of the fulfillment of God’s covenant of redemption centered on God’s elect.
