The main purpose of this study was to examine the differences between preschool children attending kindergartens and those attending child care centers with respect to their eating and prosocial behaviors. The patterns of factors representing preschool children’s prosocial behavior were compared between the two subgroups in this study. The subjects of this study were 525 preschool children and their mothers whose children attended either kindergartens or child care centers in Seoul and Gyeonggi, Korea. The levels of prosocial behaviors among preschool children were rated by their teachers, and the mothers completed their children’s eating behavior survey. The main results are as follows. First, there were differences in both the eating behavior and prosocial behavior with respect to gender and age. As results of regression analysis, eating manner was found to be predictive to both subgroups’ prosocial behaviors (β=0.18, p<.05; β=0.17, p<.01). However, the eating habit was found to be predictive to prosocial behavior of the kindergarten group (β=0.21, p<.01), while eating hygiene was found to be predictive to prosocial behavior of the childcare center group (β=0.17, p<.01). Implications for research and practice were also discussed.
