Is There a Literature Teacher?-Perception of Literary Education Professor, Preservice Teacher, and Teacher Choi, Ji-HyunDo the teachers who teach literature in secondary school identify themselves as the literature teacher? And What is the special character of literature teacher?In this study I investigated the perception of literary education professor, pre-service teacher, and teacher on the identity of literature teacher. For this study I adopted the ethnomethodological approach in school practices. And both participant and non-participant observation were used in the specific method.As a result of this research, I ascertained that the preservice teachers and teachers who (will) teach the Korean language subject considered a literature teacher as an extra-ordinary person who could write poems or novels for his/her every day activity, publish his/her works, and share his/her interest with other lovers of literature. But they didn't consider the literature teacher as a literary education specialist who could choice a fitting literary work for his/her students, make choice of the educational contents to be taught, and teach it in accord with the aim of literary education. The latter is generally based on literary education professors' point of view on the literature teacher. This difference of perception shows the problem of curriculum for the literature teacher education and subject expertise. The literary education professor doesn't educate the preservice teachers of Korean language arts as the subject expertise. But he/she expects them to be the literature teacher. Then, should we give up on them and accept the fact that there is no literature teacher? But it would be better to teach them to possess the appreciative eye, well-selected knowledge, and instructional skill of literature. This is the way that we can find a literature teacher in the classroom.
