This study aims to suggest improvements by analyzing teaching contents of ‘Korean alphabet(Korean consonants and vowels)’ in Korean textbook, Standard Korean (which were developed by the curriculum of KSL for the elementary school, middle-school, high-school students of the multi-cultural background). In chapter 2, this study defines students who need to learn Korean as a foreign lang age, and the Korean alphabet(Korean consonants and vowels) in school. And it identify their characteristics of learners. They should learn not only Korean as a second language but also Korean as a first language. Therefore, it is necessary to consider the relation between ‘teaching contents of Korean as a foreign language’ and ‘teaching contents of Korean as a first language’ In chapter 3, this study attempts to check whether ‘the Korean alphabet unit of Standard Korean ’ reflects the characteristics of learners. Therefore, this study analyze ‘2012 KSL Curriculum’ and ‘2009 Revised Korean studies Curriculum’. And it compare the textbooks of Standard Korean and Korean , critically describe the appropriateness of Standard Korean . And it suggests the direction of the teaching contents of Korean alphabet for children and youth learners.
