The purpose of this paper is to analyze the problem, occurred while teaching the Chinese language with Chinese children’s song. Some previous papers on the teaching of the Chinese language have suggested using Chinese children’s songs to teach the Chinese language. These views aim to arouse some positive attitudes towards studying the language voluntarily with the motivation on the learning of the language. Lee (2008) argues that “a teaching method of using children’s songs is useful to some beginners as one of many teaching․learning methods, because that attracts a lot of interest and concentration to learners and can be of great help to learn the Chinese language through a sense of rhythm”. However, this method also can have an bad effect on learning tones, if rhythmical elements are recklessly used. Learning through songs may be useful to raise learners’ interest and positive attitudes, but may not be the only best method in that the Chinese language is different from English, a non-tonic language. Considering these problems with the language learning through song, this papers seek to measure and analyze the differences in pitches through the Praat program, when learners Read and Sing three selected Chinese children’s songs.
