The issue of human dignity has been discussed vigorously in various academic areas. This issue has its own role on the anthropological premise based on law and ethics. The idea of human dignity also has a fundamental significance for the political co-responsibility of Christians in theological ethics. This research delves into three questions in order to discuss the issue of human dignity. To begin with, it examines whether the Christian religion has influenced the foundation of international documents for human rights. The Preamble to the Universal Declaration of Human Rights clearly shows this influence as such that it confesses the belief of innate dignity and value of all people. This research, however, does not simply claim that human dignity is fully understood theologically. Instead, the issue of human dignity has to be clarified with openness and respect toward the equal plurality of religion and ideological convictions. Thus, the second argument of this paper is the common ground in all differences of perspectives. Lastly, this research develops theological argument in terms of the issue of human dignity as it focuses on the theological foundation of the inviolable dignity of man in the creation based on the image of God, as well as in the renewed relationship with God through the forgiveness in Jesus Christ.
