The purposes of this study is to identify what variables influence the success of CMC based English learning from the learners’ perspectives. For this study, 81 students were asked to rate how they feel about the importance of the variables involved in CMC based language learning on the questionnaire. Factor analysis was conducted to analyze the data. According to the results of this study, variables related to learner characteristics, environments, instructors, learning activities and psychological support were found to influence the success of CMC based English learning. Especially, it was found that variables related to learning activities and instructors strongly influence the satisfaction that students felt about the CMC based English learning itself. Thus, instructors need to consider these variables carefully for the instructional design of CMC based English learning.
