Han Haun, born in Hamju, Hamgyungnamdo, comes to South Korea after being arrested twice in North Korea because of participating in HamHeung student movement. In 1949, he, who publishes his first collection of poems.
Han Haun sicko in the year of his debut as a writer, spends his days of remorse and resignation felling sadness at his situation suffering from Hansen"s disease. However, he writes poems of anger in the second collection Boripiri without resignation. He feels anger at a prejudice of society and his own weak-wiled personality. Then, in Jungbon Hanhaunsijip, he averts his thoughts from concentrating on only himself and turns around to the outside world.
In the 1960"s and the early 1970"s, He publishes real-participation poems and celebration poems that satires reality and criticise society. He criticizes Lee Seung-man administration and his satire which targets former President Park Jung-he personally are a manifestation of his social and political awareness as a social worker supporting leprosy patients, not as a leprosy patient being devoured by self-consciousness.
However, the 20 posthumous poems that simultaneously published 2 years after his death shows different aspects to his former world as they are pure lyric poems written with a positive attitude. In particular, although most of the hand-written posthumous poems found after his death are celebration poems, some are concentration of the poet"s trying to figure out his identity, breaking the old stereotype of himself as a leprosy patient.
Until now, the study of Han Haun has mainly focused on the first and second collections. Han Haun is not a poet wallowing self-consciousness and self-pity as a leprosy patient. He is a poet who was sometimes writing real-participating poems which criticise and satires social reality as well as pure lyric poems with no relation to Hansen"s disease. his year, a poet, 100th birthday year, so as to be Han Haun for a new study is what needs to be done.
