Several self-administered questionnaires to measure 24-hour movement behaviors-physical activity, sedentary behavior, and sleep- among children and youth are available worldwide; however, questionnaires with established validity and reliability among the Korean population is largely lacking. To accurately monitor and evaluate 24-hour movement behaviors is important for the current and future health of Korean children and youth. The purpose of this systematic review was to summarize the characteristics, validity and reliability of self-administered questionnaires available for assessing physical activity, sedentary behavior, and sleep among children and youth. A total of 35 questionnaires were identified. Among those, physical activity questionnaires were found to be the most commonly measured behavior. Only two questionnaires measured overall 24-hour movement behaviors. By settings/contexts, questionnaires were categorized into activities occurring in school, leisure/free-time, and during transportation between places. Also, questionnaires were categorized according to recall time and collected data on duration, frequency, intensity, and types of different activities. Given that physical activity, sedentary behavior, and sleep independently and interactively influence varying aspects of health, using a culturally-appropriate, context-specific, and valid and reliable questionnaire is important to better estimate health-related 24-hour movement behaviors among Korean children and youth. Furthermore, developing a survey tool that can monitor 24-hour movement behaviors collectively among children and youth is urgently needed in future research for long-term, large-scale global surveillance.
