This thesis explores the spirituality and invisibility of the early Russian avant-garde art through the activities of the Petrograd group, Youth Union. Unlike realism that reproduces visible objects, expanding the invisible part of objects into the realm of visualization can be said to be a different attempt from the previous era. In particular, it is possible to understand early Russian avant-garde art through the theory of Kulbin and Matvejs, and to consider theoretical core of various contemporary art groups.
Kulbin"s art theory suggests a rough direction for the early avant-garde art groups. The concepts of free art, free creation, and new art emphasized in the theory mean the orientation from the art of sensitivity to mental art. In order to show the human mind, Kulbin emphasizes "visible" by all sensory organs that accompany emotion. It suggests that the visual effect is the basis of various artistic creations such as literature, art, and music, that is, a new art form.
Matvejs"s admiration of Eastern art and primitive art pursues an art form different from the existing order. He presents an alternative to the new art of the future by introducing the organic phenomena of nature. By expanding the concept of Faktura, which can be called an element outside the art, it shows the artistic creation of a new paradigm by intuition and chance. This is a new way of communication, and it can be said that it is the beginning of avant-garde artists who try to read their perspectives and signs differently.
