This study aimed to explore university students’ incorporation and perceptions of mitigated peer feedback through the asynchronous computer-mediated communication in L2 writing. 20 students who attended an English writing course participated in this qualitative research for 10 weeks. Their writing assignments, online recordings of peer response, pre- and post-test scores were analyzed to explore how students incorporated mitigated peer feedback in their revision stages and whether they could develop L2 writing abilities. Students’ reflective journals and interviews were also scrutinized to examine their perceptions of mitigation strategies in peer response to L2 writing. The findings are as follows. First, the students actively interacted with each other by using mitigation strategies and frequently incorporated mitigated peer feedback in their revision, presenting the improvement of L2 writing abilities. Second, the participants reported positive attitudes toward mitigation strategies in peer response in L2 writing. Conducting the true experiment based on the procedures of the writing assignments used in the study is suggested for further research.
