This study examined the characteristics of the Japanese Bible using hito and mono appearing in Japanese Bible Proverbs and compared them to their Korean versions.
The study showed that Japanese clearly distinguishes hito and mono in contrast-type sentences. In other words, compared to Korean, hito and mono in Japanese are clearly classified and used based on biblical standards. For example, in sentences using mono in Japanese, the word is used when it is opposite to what God means, thereby clearly distinguishing those who do not conform to God"s word by using mono, which implies the meaning of neglect in the Japanese Bible. In other words, the distinction between hito and mono in Japanese can be considered as reflecting a division into “a follower of God,” which means a “righteous person” in the Bible, and “a person who defies God,” which means an “evil person.”
