The purpose of this study is to examine the professional awareness and language assessment literacy of elementary EFL teachers and whether their perceptions and awareness may differ based on their backgrounds. For this purpose, a survey was administered to 174 elementary EFL teachers in Seoul and Gyeonggi to investigate their experiences and perceptions regarding professional awareness and language assessment literacy. Elementary EFL teachers’ perception of teaching professionalism was measured based on the perception scale of professionalism in English education. Their assessment literacy was measured through a survey that was developed based on the language assessment literacy construct. The findings showed that there were differences in the EFL elementary school teachers’ awareness in professionalism awareness based on their gender, teaching career, how they became EFL teachers, and their specialization in English education. In terms of language assessment literacy, there were differences based on teachers’ age and training experiences. Based on the findings, the authors discuss the implications for elementary EFL teacher training.
