VR (virtual reality) has become a hot issue in filming industry, which helps us extend our experience even in the virtual world. Most of VR contents were made using computer graphics, which need an expensive HMD (head mounted display) for the immersiveness. However, nowadays the HMD has already been on the market on a resonable price, such as Oculus rift, Google cardboard and Samsung Galaxy Gear VR. The problem is there are not enough number of contents to feel the full immersiveness. While the VR contents by computer graphics are produced mostly by computer engineers, 360 VR videos can be provided by ordinary people due to the developments of filming technology and post producing softwares. 360 VR videos lead people to feel great immersiveness such that they could be used in many fields such as entertainment, sports, journalism and so on. In this sense, we need to study on 360 VR video shooting techniques and storytelling in order to enrich VR contents, as producing fully immersive 360 VR videos is still on progress. In this paper, we choose three types of popularly used 360 degree VR rigs to compare their performances and to provide a guideline for their usage, where the VR rig is a frame that holds two or more cameras for shooting 360 VR video. Even though all the three rigs were placed at the same orientation, the shooting results are different. Because the three rigs have different structures and they have their own stitching seam lines. With the three rigs, we make 360 degree VR videos considering the relationship between cameras and the subjects. With the 360 video samples from individual rigs, we make an analysis about which rig makes the best imersive quality when the director shoots subjects in the environment. With the analysis result, we propose which rig to use to make a best 360 degree VR video at the filming situation. We expect that 360 degree VR video story tellers could be able to select the most suitable rig for their immersive 360 degree VR video projects.
