This paper considers the spatial expression and the time expression in the illustrations of Ryutei Tanehiko's masterpieces "Nisemurasaki Inaka Genji" and "Shohonjitate". Both works belong to a genre called "Gokan", and have features on the form that text and illustration coexist on one page. Among the enormous amount of text, which scene and how to draw depends on the importance of determining the selling point of the work. First of all, in the case of "Inaka Genji", it draws two pages of events that take place in a different space at the same time. Or, to express that it is the same space but different time zones, it used a motif symbolizing each space. In addition, in order to express the flow of time in an illustration, it was possible to confirm that Tanehiko was instructing the elements such as costumes, plants, moon etc of the characters in detail through the red letters of the second manuscript. In the case of "Shohonjitate", it used plenty of Kabuki stage equipment in space expression. For example, it represented on one page the events performed in the side space through a revolving stage. Also, through the lifting devices like "Seri" or "Suppon", the characters in the story move to the second floor or the person holding the key to the development of the story was drawing. In addition, we also confirmed that we used the lighting used on the stage to express time zones. As described above, it skillfully expresses the flow of the connected space and time to illustration, according to each characteristic like "Inaka Genji" is a long Gokan, and "Shohonjitate" is a Gokan which using the technique of copying the stage of Kabuki on paper.
