This study was an empirical attempt to investigate the extent to which a web-based application of a cognitive behavioral therapy decreases students’ academic procrastination. The participants of the present study were 35 university students who perceived themselves as having the tendency toward academic procrastination. The students were divided into two groups: The experimental group consisting of 20 students, and the control group consisting of 15 students. During a six-week study period, only the experimental group participated in the web-based program for twelve sessions. In order to measure the hypothesized effectiveness, all participants were given a battery of psychometrically validated scales pertaining to academic procrastination, anxiety, self-efficacy, and time management. In addition, their academic scores before the program were compared to those after the program. The results indicate that the web-based cognitive behavioral program decreases academic procrastination and increase self-efficacy and time management skills. Although not statistically significant, the experimental group’s academic performance increased as well. No effects on anxiety levels were found. Overall, the present study suggests that the web-based cognitive behavioral program may serve as an efficacious tool in curbing academic procrastination. We discussed the research implication of the present study and offered suggestions for future research.
