This article highlights the uniqueness of the Christian worldview by analyzing and comparing the views on suffering in world religions. World religions deal with the problem of suffering. They try to identify the cause of suffering and suggest solutions. Hinduism and Buddhism reduce the problem of suffering to a question of perception, insisting that having a correct perception of the reality of the universe is a way to be liberated from suffering. These religions deal with the problem of suffering in terms of the existential, cognitive dimension, and are lack of dealing with social dimension. On the contrary, there are humanistic worldviews such as Confucianism, philosophical Taoism and Marxism which reduce the problem of suffering to a problem of reigning society. They discuss the proper structure of reign and the qualities of the ruler. These worldviews are this-worldly idealism that thinks that the problem of suffering is resolved under ideal rule, but it does not deal with the problem of self or personal misfortune. In animism, suffering is thought to be caused by supernatural spirits or forces, and therefore, develops sorcery to control or manipulate them. However, animism does not deal with the problem of self or reign in order to solve the problem of suffering. Islam, as a theistic religion, insists that suffering occurs because God punishes sin and to test faith. However, in the theistic religions, various theodicean issues are raised. The Christian view of suffering is comprehensive and integrated in nature by which the biased views of world religions can be corrected by it. The Christian worldview shows how the causes of suffering are eventually removed and the human desires are comprehensively accomplished in the Kingdom of God.
