This thesis aims to study the phenomenon on reading discourse in Korean society through critical discourse analysis regarding “2013 Research Report on Reading Status in Korea”. According to the result of this research, press releases have a optimistic viewpoint and emphasize the output of the policy, which based on the increasing rates of reading. Whereas newspaper articles tries to stimulate the readers' willingness and consuming books because of the low rate of reading. This means that newspapers give attention to the quantitative growth of reading life rather than qualitative, such as culture or discourse on reading. In particular, newspapers strengthen the paper book reading rather than digital book, which implicates economic perspectives of producing and consuming books. In conclusion, various reading discourse has its different interest on reading, which implicates that we need mcuh more communication, policy innovations, educations, solidarities between medium to coexist in the future of reading life
