Creativity is the essential keyword of innovation in 21st century. It is the ability of generating new ideas and combining them. Innovation is the implementation of creative idea with success. Design thinking is the driving force to make them possible. There have been only a few studies that have tried to develop the creative process based on design thinking and historical background to fit the domestic status. The purpose of this study is to order a emerged and diffuse background of design thinking and check a correlation from the creativity development to the innovation. It is also to discover the domestic and international creative process cases based on design thinking to better understanding. 4 creative process cases looking into as follows. 3I process guide that IDEO modified newly for the United States, Design thinking process used in Hasso Plattner Institute of Design, Stanford University for the U.S. and Potsdam University for Germany, Double diamond model for the United Kingdom, and W.I.P.R. process for Republic of Korea. Based on the result of the study, some similarities on them are as follows. First, it is a multi-disciplinary and human-centered approach. Second, it has a structure of divergent and convergent thinking. Thirdly, it undergoes prototyping for the visualization. Finally, there are insightful results through empathy with customers or users. An research, which creative process based on design thinking for the various challenge and creativity development that leads to innovation, remains as a matter for future study. These fundamental research results could be utilized for the development of a design workshop model or guideline for team constitution of participatory design.
