Creativity is the essential keyword of innovation in 21st century. It is the ability of generating new ideas and combining them. Innovation is the implementation of creative idea with success. Design thinking is the driving force to make them possible. There have been only a few studies that have tried to develop the creative process based on design thinking and historical background to fit the domestic status. The purpose of this study is to order a emerged and diffuse background of design thinking and check a correlation from the creativity development to the innovation. It is also to discover the domestic and international creative process cases based on design thinking to better understanding. 4 creative process cases looking into as follows. 3I process guide that IDEO modified newly for the United States, Design thinking process used in Hasso Plattner Institute of Design, Stanford University for the U.S. and Potsdam University for Germany, Double diamond model for the United Kingdom, and W.I.P.R. process for Republic of Korea. Based on the result of the study, some similarities on them are as follows. First, it is a multi-disciplinary and human-centered approach. Second, it has a structure of divergent and convergent thinking. Thirdly, it undergoes prototyping for the visualization. Finally, there are insightful results through empathy with customers or users. An research, which creative process based on design thinking for the various challenge and creativity development that leads to innovation, remains as a matter for future study. These fundamental research results could be utilized for the development of a design workshop model or guideline for team constitution of participatory design.

창의성(creativity)은 21세기 혁신(innovation)의 주요 키워드(keyword)로 새로운 아이디어의 산출이자 아이디어를 결합하는 능력이며, 여기에서의혁신은 창의적 아이디어를 성공적으로 실행하는 것이다. 이러한 과정을 가능하게 하는 원동력이 디자인사고(design thinking)이다. 이것에 대한 역사적인 맥락 연구와 국내 현황에 맞게 자체 개발된 디자인사고 기반의 창의적 프로세스 개발 사례 연구가 비교적 잘 이루어지지 않았다. 본 연구에서는 디자인사고가 등장하여 확산하게 된 배경과 창의성 개발에서 혁신으로 적용되는 상관관계를 정리해보고, 좀 더 자세한 이해를 돕기 위하여 디자인사고 기반의 창의적 프로세스를 대표적인 국내·외 사례로 분류해 알아보았다. 미국의 사례로, 널리 알려진 IDEO에서 새롭게 보강한 3I 프로세스 가이드와 d.school로 알려진 HPI of Design, Stanford와 독일의 Potsdam 대학교에서 사용하고 있는 디자인사고 프로세스를 영국의 사례로 Double Diamond Model을, 한국의 사례로 W.I.P.R. 프로세스를 채택하였다. 연구결과 디자인사고 기반의 창의적 프로세스들의 공통점은 다음과 같이 요약되어질 수 있다. 첫째, 다학제적(interdisciplinary)이며 인간중심적(human-centered) 접근방법이다. 둘째, 전반적으로 디자인사고 접근법으로 확산적 사고(divergent thinking)와 수렴적 사고(convergent thinking)의 구조를 갖추고 있다. 셋째, 프로토타입(prototype)의 시각화(visualization)를 거친다. 마지막으로 공감(empathy)을 통해 통찰력(insight) 있는 결과를 얻을 수 있다. 향 후 다양한 목적과 도전을 수행할 수 있는 디자인사고 기반의 창의적 프로세스 개발이 이루어져야 하며, 또한 혁신을 이끌어내는 창의적 자신감 기반의 창의성 개발에 대해서 연구가 지속되어야 할 것이다. 이러한 기초 연구가 프로젝트 진행에 참여하는 구성원들이 창의적으로 문제해결에 접근할 수 있는 디자인 워크숍 실험모형 개발이나 참여적 디자인 팀 구성 가이드라인에 활용되기를 기대해본다.
