Purpose: This study is conducted to analyze problems in the performance evaluation indicators of the Korea Sport & Olympic Committee’s athlete career support project and draw up an improvement plan.
Method: Through an in-depth analysis of related documents and interviews, the following problems were found in the Korean Sport Promotion Foundation’s performance evaluation indicators.
Results: 1) quantitative figures-centered performance evaluation indicators and 2) advanced areas in athletes career support project were treated as mere additional features. The problems with the performance evaluation indicators of the Korea Amateur Athletic Association are as follows: 1) lack of a qualitative evaluation indicator system, 2) lack of a baseline for setting a target figure, and 3) the project’s goal set to only focusing on ‘support’.
Conclusion: As an improvement plan, it is essential to develop mixed evaluation indicators and add contents and delete unnecessary ones by developing qualitative evaluation indicators from the perspective of the Korean Sports Promotion Foundation. The athlete career support project will need further improvement by utilizing newly developed mixed evaluation indicators and in turn become beneficial to both current and retired athletes.
